Demonstration - Term Viewer

The term viewer displays full thesaurus details for a term. The viewer consists of the following sections:

Clicking any of the following example terms will display the details for the term within the term viewer. In the full query builder interface, clicking on the Find In Thesaurus button would bring up the term finder section, and clicking on the Add to Query button would add the currently displayed term to the query terms section.

Term Hierarchy
If not already displayed, the term hierarchy section can be accessed via the View Hierarchy button on the toolbar. This section displays a term within its local context in a hierarchical thesaurus structure. Ancestry and sibling terms are displayed, and clicking on any displayed term allows the user to dynamically navigate the thesaurus structure.

Term Expansion
If not already displayed, the term expansion can be accessed via the View Expansion button on the toolbar. This section displays a list of terms which are determined to be "semantically close", or similar in some way to the original term. The degree of similarity for each term is indicated by a simple bar graph, and is deduced automatically on the basis of the terms' relative proximity within the thesaurus structure. Similar to the term hierarchy control, clicking on any displayed term allows the user to dynamically navigate the thesaurus structure, though this time in a slightly more novel way, as the user is navigating via semantic closeness.

Term Description
This section displays the scope note for a particular term, together with any non-preferred variations of the term.

Related Terms
This section displays related terms for a particular term from the thesaurus. i.e. terms which are not related hierarchically, but nevertheless have some strong associative relationship. Not all terms in the thesaurus have related terms. Clicking on any displayed related term allows you to navigate reciprocal associative links in the thesaurus.
